My school is ranked #3 in the state of NJ and I'm in the highest math honors class for my grade. The thing I'm worried about is that although I scrapped an easy A 1st semester, but I think it'll be hard to managed above an A- 2nd semester. I know cmu has an emphasis on math scores and I'm quite worried that my slip in my grade will have some slight effect. I'm not applying for engineering but I'm applying for cognitive science, which uses some computer science. I have mostly A's in my other classes and I'm taking AP bio and physics this year, and AP physics, psychology, BC calc, and statistics next year. I know it doesn't sound bad but I know people who haven't been accepted because of slight mess ups here and there.

I imagine those slight slip ups weren’t the only reason they weren’t accepted. I wasn’t a straight-A student, but I got into CMU and was offered a good chunk of merit money, too.

Even though I only had an A- in BC (because I didn’t pour much effort) and easy 97+s in previous math courses, and I listed the Mathematical Sciences Department on my app, CMU overlooked that “slip-up”.

“slight mess up”: well what do you mean? and “here and there”? the latter may explain the bad outcomes…

I mean like a few grades like history and japanese went down slightly, they’re grades I can make up though. Math is my main problem right now, but my teacher told me that there are weightier tests last marking period than this one (our school only counts semester grades) so that’s a bit of a relief.
