EMT as a credit for college

When DD enrolled in the EMT course at CC, during registration, it was suggested that she enrolled the course as part of HS and CC bridge program so that she could use the credit for her college. I am wondering whether anyone has successfully used a CC EMT course as a college credit… I assumed it will be a elective as she is not going to major in nursing or pre-med…

She could probably use it as a random elective just used to fill out the 120 credits required. It would depend on the college she ends up going to.

thanks. I hope she can get credit as it is a reason to enroll her as a credit course in CC (as opposed to continuing education credit so that she has an easier transition. When I causally brought up to the admission officer during a conversation, she told me no…but I am not sure whether she knew DD enrolled as a credit course in CC…or whether I should bring up again…

It depends on the school.

More selective schools will not give credits toward courses taken before they were matriculated at their school.

Also remember if she takes it fro credit and she applies to grad/professional school, she will have to submit that transcript.

Her school might give her credit…but that doesn’t mean it will apply to her graduation requirements AT ALL.

My kid took anatomy and physiology at the local,CC, dual enrollment in HS. Her college accepted the course BUT she could not apply it to her graduation requirements…and this course WAS required in her major. So…she took it again.

She also had a random other set of credits from an AP course that might have been able to be used for annelective in the arts…but she actually took a course as part of her core course requirements…none of which could be waived for AP or dual enrollment classes in HS.

So my kid had some random extra credits.

I’m not sure why you think a CC EMT course will help with the transition to college. My kid IS an EMT…the EMT course has the same subject matter…and the same testing requirements (written and a oriatical) regardless of where you take it. And you don’t get extra EMT points for taking the course at the CC.
