EMT or firefighter?

So my local fire station has a junior firefighter program for under 18 where basically the only difference is I have to go home before the others. However, to be a firefighter you have to get EMT certification first and then firefighter certification. But I could decide to pursue more advanced EMT certification. Which one should I be if I'm interested in medicine or engineering? EMT seems the more clear cut choice because I'm interested in medicine but firefighting just seems so cool to me. Which one would colleges appreciate more and which one should I do?

EMT is good if you want to go into medicine because it’ll help harden your stomach for things you’ll see later. Because, from the stories I hear from my dad who was an EMT/firefighter by volunteer then career, it really toughens your stomach. For engineering, you would be fine with either as both require a bit of innovation and reasoning. Also, if you choose firefighting, remember the golden rule. “Risk a lot to save a life. Risk a little to save property. Risk nothing to save nothing worth saving.”

(Usually, it’s “Risk a lot to save a lot. Risk a little to save a little. Risk nothing to save nothing worth saving.” but my dad says the other version because it makes it more clear.)
