I just attended preview and my advisor told me i tested out of enc 1101 and should take enc 1102 my fall semester so i registered for that. My understanding was i had to take this class. However I was just looking more into the details and think i might have misunderstood. Do i need to take enc 1102? I am still waiting to hear back about my AP scores to see if i passed my English lit test to bring in 3 comp credits (possibly 6 if i did really well). If i did pass that would i have to take any English through college since my gen ed requirement would be fulfilled. If i did not pass that test should i email the school about my misunderstanding and try to drop enc 4102 and add something more related to my major like enc 3426 (professional writing for engineers?). Any and all advice is welcome though i probably plan on waiting to find out my ap score before emailing the school or my preview staffer to clear things up

You’ll need 6 GE-C (Composition) credits. ENC 1101 and ENC 1102 are both worth 3 points. If you score a 4 on your English Language and Composition AP test, then you’ll be awarded 6 credits and will meet your GE-C requirements. Otherwise, it looks like you still need 3 more credits (if we’ve earned “3” credits already…).
ENC 3246 Professional Communication for Engineers, is a required class (I believe) and it also meets the GE-C requirement. So, yes, you can skip 1102 and take ENC 3246. You can drop and add classes during Add/Drop, you’re not stuck with the classes you’ve registered for during Preview.
See these links for more details and a recommended semester plan for Computer Engineering (notice that ENC 1102 is NOT included in any of the recommend semester plans):

Keep in mind that you want a balance each semester of your harder classes, with a few easier classes (like ENC 3246). The first priority will be your critical tracking courses (Calc, Physics, etc.), then fill in with your GE classes.
Good Luck!
^^thank you @Gator88NE because I was confused about this too, for my son.
He took ENC1102 this past semester as a DE class at our CC. We were slightly annoyed because UF was the only school where it didn’t fulfill all his English requirements (because he still needs Writing for Engineers). But I’m glad to see that it will move the needle.
OP - hope you get those AP points so you don’t have to worry about College Comp 2! DS slogged through that one. Not his favorite class, but it’s also highly professor-dependent.
I think ENC 3426 must be taken at UF (??).
Definitely watch during the Drop/Add.
@SouthFloridaMom9 Yes, ENC 3426 is an engineering requirement. It’s a good class to take, especially before you take any upper division classes or do any research, and I think it’s 100% on-line (which works really well when it comes to doing peer reviews and such).
