Have any of you encountered a teacher outside of school? Like at the mall or a restaurant? Do you ignore them and act as though you did not see him/her? Or do you say "hi" and try to make conversation?

Oh my goodness, yes! It seems to happen to me everywhere! If it is a teacher I like, I might just say hi, but if it's a teacher I don't really like or know, I normally just try to hide.

Mine actually went up to talk with my parents. I wanted to die.

My mom's a teacher, and she'll always go up and chat with her students when she sees them outside of school. I feel so bad for those kids.

Depends on the teacher.

But with most of my teachers I'll at least say Hi.

haha ballerstatus, nice.

But yeah if they're a teacher that I get along with in school then I'll talk to them, but if they're really stiff in school then I'll try to ignore them.

Sometimes the place is just really awkward. For instance, I once ran into one of my male teachers in Victoria's Secret. Needless to say, I did not say hi.

My dad's a high school teacher and we're constantly running into his current and former students when we're out. It's actually pretty amazing how most of them go up to him and say hi! He usually holds a party at our house at the end of the year which all of the students are invited to, so we'll even get a few people dropping by the house when they come back on break from college.

This story is 100% true and amazing:

This summer, I was chilling in a park with some guys at midnight when all of the sudden my old physics teacher walks by with his dog, says hi and pull out a own joint. Then, he asked us to join him. We finished smoking, then he went on to tell my friends and I about how the school was screwed up, how the admin sucks, how he catches tons of kids on the school trips drinking/smoking and laughs it off (only after scaring the **** out of the kids)

By the way, I had already graduated at this point...

I highly doubt your story is true.. why would he walk his dog at midnight

I actually just went to go visit my math teacher the other day...
but my high school was pretty close. And I've seen my teachers all over (jazzfest for one); mardi gras is always awkward though, so that's when we would find out where our teachers would be along parade routes and just not go there.

My AP gov teacher lives in my neighborhood and just down the street!!

Yes, I see them at the mall or at the movies, maybe also downtown, as my town is not so big. Actually, a lot of them stay in the same neigbourhood as me. I know that my former 6th year teacher lived two blocks from my house, my Maths teacher is 4 or 5 streets from here, my PE teacher lives like 500 m from my house and my English teacher is in the eastern part of the block. So yeah, I see them sometimes. But my friend lives right in front of my French teacher so...

Totally embarassing when you see them walking up to you in the mall to talk with your parents. Saying hi is okay and making conversation without my parents there is okay though...

It's actually never happened to me - I've never seen a teacher outside of school. x.X

The last time I ran into a teacher outside of the classroom was in third grade in the grocery store. I was shocked that teachers actually leave their desk...and breathe.

I've been pretty safe, since then.

My math teacher actually utterly ignored me when she was walking toward the mall...

crap, i think i see my teacher right now in the library on the computer....

uhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

it's really awkward.

I saw my journalism advisor at trader joes' with a bunch of my friends, and we exchanged pleasantries.

I have also seen my teachers at varied plays, etc. but i'm on good terms with them so i always say hi .

There was this one time I will never forget.

My friend and I were at the pharmacy picking up supplies. When we got to the line, we saw our Latin teacher, who started talking to us. Now, on our cart was a box of pads. My friend was like, "k, BYE!" and kind of... left me there.

It was awkward :P

Wow

I don't understand why so many of you feel embarrassed...? Whenever I see my teachers somewhere else, I ALWAYS say hi and make a little conversation. If I am with my parents, I introduce them and stay on talking for a bit. I even tease them. Like, if I see them at Victoria Secret's, I go: "Preparing for the night huh?" with a wide grin and ran away before they can hit me. =D

But then again, I guess I do have that type of outgoing+teasing personality.

It just ocurred to me that there are even teachers who give me ride places!!! And teachers whom I discuss my personal + love life like you know, we were really good friends (which most of the time, we are).

There was even this one time where I met up with one of my teachers just to talk about literature + politics and have a good time. =D

I even sent teasing e-mails to my teachers (i.e. "I happen to miss your beautiful smile...") Omg I just realized my relationship with teachers is not normal... lol.
