End of Year Teacher Gifts

It’s almost summer and I thought that it would be nice to give my teachers a hand written thank-you notes and a gift card. I thought that I could give $50 to the teachers and $100 to those who wrote me a recommendation letter. Will that be ok?

The money part seems excessive to me. As a teacher, I liked cards but would have been very uncomfortable receiving money. If you school is collecting money for the school library or some other project, I might donate to that and tell the teachers without dollar amount that I contributed to the fund in their honor.

Yeah, the money is definitely too much. I would get them personal gifts instead, like a novel or two for your English teacher or a molecule necklace for your science teacher. They will remember you more and be more appreciative of your gifts if the gifts show thought.

My son did give a box of fine chocolates and a $20 or $25 dollar gift card to Starbucks with a thank you card and handwritten note to the teachers who wrote him recommendations and to the guidance counselor.

the money is unecessary. I think it would be much more appreciated to give them meaningful gifts that pertain to their personal interests or something that they teach. for example, my geometry teacher has thousands of ties, and he wears a different one every day of the year, so a lot of people buy him some crazy tie. also, he always wanted to teach history, so I might buy him a book on history. just little things like that make teachers I see that you notice their little personal quirks, and can be so much more meaningful than green paper.
