"Endowment Expected to Rise" (news item)

<p>U</a>. endowment projected to rise by 10 percent during FY2010 - The Daily Princetonian</p>

<p>The University is projecting that the endowment will increase by 10 percent during fiscal year 2010, Provost Christopher Eisgruber ’83 announced at the town hall meeting on Tuesday night. This is a more optimistic outlook than that held five months ago, when President Tilghman announced in an e-mail that the University assumed — for planning purposes — that “endowment returns will be flat this year, based on ongoing uncertainty about the extent and timing of the recovery in the markets.” (continued)</p>

<p>It appears that the financial picture at Princeton and at many of its peers is improving. I find it difficult to believe that a reliable projection of endowment growth can be made almost six months before the close of the fiscal year, but perhaps Andrew Golden, who manages Princeton's endowment, has good reason for his early projection. If a ten percent increase is actually achieved, the endowment will be back up to nearly 14 billion. </p>
