no, but someone dismissing a whole genre based on only mainstream artists they here on the radio and not taking into consideration other/better artists they know nothing about IS ignorant. i'm sure you'd agree.

it's like if i said rock sucks when all i've heard is linkin park, limp bizkit, nickelback...etc

anyway, like i said, i'm not looking for another long debate. so i respect everyone's opinion, i just know i'm right. and no that wasn't a serious comment for those of you who will inevitably quote "i just know i'm right" and call me ignorant. movin on...

Someone not liking certain genres of music is not ignorant in the least (and you don't have to listen to every artist ever to decide that you think it's crap). They just have different musical tastes.

Not everyone's always going to agree with you and like everything that you do...I mean, come on!

^ Someone doesn't have to like a certain genre, but one should at least be respectful of someone else's choice. I would think that would be the mature thing to do.

wow...um...it's not about hurtin peoples feelings. it's about being ignorant and uniformed. i mean, anyone can say they hate rap, but at least admit that you don't know anything about it except nelly, 50 cent, and 2pac (which everyone uses as a cop out for "good rap"). if you've heard great rappers and mc and still don't like it, ok. but trust me, i doubt many have that still think rap sucks.

i don't care what you say you don't or do like, but just admit when all you know is what's on the radio and obviously haven't heard the better artists in that genre.

I don't think maturity is overrated...thank god for it.

Again...this is not about liking the same genre( or hurting someone's feeling) since most people will have different tastes when comes to music. I agree with you on that. It is just about having respect for another person's choice in music. It is all about how you come across...

If you bash someone's choice in music...you just don't seem very tactful or open-minded.

If I don't like an artist, I won't say anything neg. The musician is just not to my liking. There are exceptions though...depending on content.

Maturity is important...for things that actually matter.

I don't understand why anyone would care if someone says their taste in music is crap or weird. Does that make you enjoy your music any less? It shouldn't, so what's the point in trying to be tactful about your own tastes?

People have poked fun at me after finding a few broadway/showtune-type songs on my iPod...and clarinet solos...and classical/marches...and grunge, ska, funk, alternative, punk, rock, metal, indie, emo, etc because they think my taste is so random (there are also specks of country, rap, hip-hop, and pop...but they are few and far between). I just poke back at their disgusting pop (think "Promiscuous Girl" and "London Bridge" levels of horrible...and don't even get me started on "My Humps") and go about my business.

I agree on being respectful of political views and the such, but music is for enjoyment.

...and while my distaste for hip-hop runs deep, I actually like some of the non-radio rap. There are many songs that are very intelligent and really say something...of course that doesn't sell nearly as well as the radio junk.

I love how all current_student does is accuse us of being "ignorant." IMO I am not ignorant of rap. As I said in my post, I listen to rap and like it. I have listened to underground rap and old rap, which is GOOD. But, modern mainstream rap is complete ****.

It's impossible to be ignorant of modern mainstream rap, since everyone has to put up with it constantly. It's unfortunately too popular for people to be ignorant of it. Not to mention I don't see what there is to be ignorant of! It's not like mainstream rap is something deep and thoughtful.

I think the only ignorant people are the mainstream rappers themselves.

Oh and I think lil' john might be retarded?

Red Bull, maybe followed with a Monster XXL Lo Carb a few hours later topped off with some Arizona Green Tea usually does the trick.

However, if you're looking for the ultimate all-nighter experience look no further than Redline Energy drink. Be warned, if you're pregnant you should not drink this. If you're in top health, you should not drink more than half the can for the first hour or so I believe. Redline Energy drink is actually for bodybuilders but contains enough energy to keep a normal person awake all night at top shape. The problem is that it also makes you shiver. That's right, you begin to shake (this is done for the bodybuilders, if you shiver your burn calories).

there's a link to Redline, i've had a friend try it with positive results but I dunno, shivering really isn't for me.

This freaky scientific breakthrough is the first physique-transforming matrix to coax your body to burn fat through the shivering response. It is a physiological fact that when you shiver, your body releases a large amount of stored bodyfat in an attempt to bring body temperature back to normal. Redline induces this effect quite efficiently. However, the power of VPX Redline does not stop there, as its radical combination of novel ingredients will also have you sweating up a thermogenic storm, and thus burning fat through yet another unique mechanism. With this 1-2 fat melting punch, VPX Redline has rendered fat burners of the past obsolete! When it comes to energy, Redline will amp you to the max within minutes, ready to tear apart the weights and wear out the treadmill like a tiger released from its cage!

i was with you until your second paragraph. i said people are being ignorant of rap as a whole b/c all they judge it based solely on mainstream stuff. i didn't say people are ignorant of mainstream rap. read more closely. i know and admitted mainstream rap sucks.

i agree w/ your last two statements though. yes mainstream rappers are also ignorant. and yes lil jon is retarded.

just curious, what MAINSTREAM songs in any genre these days have "meaning". I.e. i haven't heard anyting on the radio from any genre that's any better than songs about big booty *****es, drugs, or sneakers. (with the exception of maybe like a greenday song or 2, i kind stopped listening to them in like 98)

Lil Jon is def NOT retarded. He may not know any calculus or european history, but he definitely knows music and marketing.

^not many if any. and nobody say kanye b/c that douche just uses samples on his songs, raps a couple of lines of "deep" crap, and then ends up rappin about himself. i've heard all his cd's and seen him in interviews and stuff, and i just don't like the guy, but i digress.

mos def and common are the closest to mainstream that are decent, although not all there songs are deep and have meaning. but many do, and a lot of great artists have songs that are just for fun, so i don't hold it against them. nas is mainstream and has some good songs as well.

Yeah, a lot of mainstream stuff doesn't have meaning...which is why I don't listen to any of it with exception of a handful of songs with decent music.
