I was just wondering if anyone could help/ convince me which school is better. For now, I am going into Electrical Engineering (not 100% sure if ill switch majors or not). Some factors that i am looking at are school prestige, best value, atmosphere, surrounding city, extracurriculars, sport teams, etc.

Where are you from? That would make a big difference in the “value” part of your equation. If you are from Illinois, go to Illinois. If you are from Michigan, go to Michigan. From Georgia, go to Georgia Tech. I am a EE, I would not consider Rose-Hulman when compared to those schools because it is very different. (Not a good city/atmosphere, no big time sports teams, definitely lesser prestige, not a great place to switch majors.)

Welll University of Illinois Urbana Champaign is known to be one of the best schools in the world to study the engineering field. Though University of Michigan, Purdue both have very good engineering schools. Which will be more affordable should help you decide on a school.

I’d definitely say Michigan. Whatever you need/want from a college, it has. It is also the most prestigious name in that list if you ask me. I have been accepted to all of the schools that you listed, except Rose Hulman, where I didn’t even apply. I’m going U Mich all the way; only concern with them is the money. And if you live in Michigan, no brainer!

Thanks!
Well, i’m from New Jersey so they’re all 9-12 hours away. @UMEE11 Do you really think Rose-Hulman is not comparable though? According to USNEWS, theyre like #1 in 4+ engineering majors. But they ARE just rankings, so…

@Luapski24, yeah Michigan a good choice, but i’ve heard that Illinois and Georgia Tech are just really prestigious engineering schools that are hard to pass on.

Michigan for sure. If you’re just talking about prestige alone, maybe UIUC engineering and Georgia Tech engineering are ranked 1 or 2 higher than U of M engineering but I’d still pick U of M because as an overall university it’s much more prestigious. Even if you’re going into engineering, I think prestige of the overall school matters. Also for your electives/humanities you’d probably have better options at U of M.

In terms of “best value, atmosphere, surrounding city, extracurricular, sport teams, etc”, I’m sure most people would agree U of M is the best.
