Engineering 7 - Wait until next Spring?

Sparknotes:

-I did FPF last semester so I didn't get to take any tech. classes except Math 1B
-I'm currently in Math 53, Physics 7A, and E10, (also BioE 25)
-I'm taking Math 54 over the summer
-I want to wait until Spring 2011 to take E7 because it's a much more enjoyable experience.

Is this a bad idea? E7 seems to not be a prerequisite for any classes I might need to take (ME C85, ME 40, E28, etc.) So for next semester, would I be fine taking holding off on E7 until then?

Yo. I’m in your E10 class. What modules are you in? Ya E7 was full of sophmores and juniors when I took it last semester.

I’m in CE and did ME last module. Any other opinions?

Hmm. You don’t need it in ME40 and E28. In those classes dont use matlab. E28 uses solidworks. ME40 is just Thermo. It might be helpful in MEC85 since you do a lot of work with matrices.

It’s better to take E7 early cuz Matlab’s going to be very useful down the road and a LOT of your classes will use it. It’s useful for doing tedious calculations and plotting graphs. I’m pretty sure it’s required for MEc85. When I took the class, we had a couple of assignments that were based on Matlab. So, yeah, take it early. And I think a lot of those Juniors were transfers.

ME 40 does require it… but it doesn’t say so for ME C85. Should I take Matlab over the summer instead of Math 54 then? I really wanted to have Math 54 in before I do Physics 7B. (They have the same time frame during summer so E7 with Math 54 during summer is not an option).

I can’t make the decision for you, but here’s a bit of additional advice. Even though Math 54 isn’t required for E7, E7 does go over a bit of stuff from Math 54, namely putting linear differential equations in state-space form and multiplying matrices. Take with it what you will, but I personally find those concepts a lot easier to understand after taking Math 54.

Bumping again because I found out that taking E7 and Math 54 over summer is an option. (Final exams don’t conflict). Does this seem like a reasonable schedule for summer?

E7 is alot of work, doesn’t sound like a good idea to do it over the summer.

bump 10 char

Dude. It’s so smart to take Math 54 and E7 concurrently. At least this semester, we covered a lot of linear algebra for the second midterm, and my friends in math 54 breezed whereas I…didn’t.

As for taking both during the summer…I agree; unfortunately E7 is a lot of work. However, I’m not sure how hard it will be during the summer. Perhaps the workload will be lighter? Not sure…
If you’re dedicated, I’m sure you could pull it off. Don’t plan for anything else, though…E7 assignments can be a real *****. 8 hours+(+) per week, average. Unless you have prior programming experience–in that case, maybe you’ll be able to figure things out more quickly.

Is it more advisable to take Math 53 or Math 54 with E7?
And is E7 easier in spring or fall?
I want take E7 during the fall but I’m not too sure how difficult it will be. Most people also told me to take 53 before 54, so I don’t know . . .

I heard it’s easier in the Spring because CE runs E7 whilst ME runs the class during Fall.

bumpity bump, telebears soon
