Engineering 98

What exactly is Engineering 98? The name of the course is "Surviving Engineering At Cal" - sounds sort of interesting but I couldn't find any information as to what exactly is it about and is first semester a good time to take this course?

You can take it for 1-4 credits and thats another thing I haven't quite understood - how do these courses work with variable credit? Say what's the difference if I do the same coures for 1 credit or 3 credits?

Cheers!

The 98 series are "special". They are sort of like seminar courses, where it's more for personal interest rather than for your degree. The idea behind variable units is that if you put a lot of effort into a class, you can get 3-4 units, while if you don't, you can get 1-2 units. Now, in a course like "Surviving Engineering at Cal", most likely everybody takes it for 1-2 units, since it doesn't sound like something with a serious amount of work.

I haven't personally heard anything abou that course. If you're interested, though, go ahead and sign up (for however many units you want--if you're way off, I'm sure they'll tell you early in the semester). If it's dull and boring, just drop it.

Thanks for the reply eudean, but I am still clueless as to what is discussed in this seminar.. I guess I'll wait till I go there and see - in any case I've already got 17 units for first sem
