Engineering/ACES

My son applied to UCONN Engineering. I am a little concerned about him being accepted to the Engineering program. Does anyone know if you apply to Enginnering and they don't think it is a good fit for you as an incoming student, but they like you overall for UCONN, will they accept you and put you in ACES? Thank you for any info

Yup, If you son applies to the engineering school but UConn feels like he is still qualified for the school in general, he will be placed in the ACES program. I do not remember if it was after the first semester or first year but after a certain amount of time your son would be able to apply to the engineering school which requires a 2.9 GPA. In ACES your son would take the same classes as first year engineers so he would not fall behind schedule. Even if he does not receive the necessary GPA the first time he will be able to apply again the next semester.

I really wouldn’t be too worried. I haven’t heard of many people applying to a specific school and getting put into ACES. I think ACES is more for people who are undecided, not for people who weren’t good enough for whatever school. If that does happen, it’s definitely not difficult to switch into SoE, although some majors such as ME and BME have GPA requirements to switch into now.
