Hello all. There are many places where you can view the average ACT scores accepted at the various colleges but this doesn’t clarify what the admissions standards are for Engineering (a few list on their websites but not all). My daughter has only taken the ACT once, with little preparation, and scored a 28. Her GPA is about 3.95W. What at her odds of being accepted at a decent school for Engineering? He first choices are Purdue & UCSD. She does clubs and a Varsity sport (she has some college coaches from non-Engineering schools interested in her which complicates her selections). She is retaking the ACT this weekend & hoping for a 30.
What is her Math section score?
Look in-state first. Your high school counselor should be familiar with your in-state options and what you need to get in. Not only are engineering stats better at state schools, but the standards for out-of-state admits are higher than those for in-state.
For Purdue Engineering 2016 admission, mid 50 ACT was 29-33 while the Math score mid 50 was 29-34. The admission rate was near 50%.
For UCSD, the engineering admission rate was 22%. There is no data on ACT mid 50 for 2016 but for 2015. For 2015, the mid 50 was 29-33 while the Math score mid 50 was 30-34. Based on the mid 50 SAT score for 2016, the ACT mid 50 of 2016 is around 0-1 point higher than Purdue.
For both schools, you need higher stat and the admission rate would be lower from OOS.
