Engineering admission fall 2012

Any one know how long it will take for them to give us a code so we can sign up for classes?

I’m curious about those rejected from an engineering department for the University of Washington since I have not yet received an acceptance or rejection letter.

For those rejected: In the MyUW page, what appears in the Undergraduate Admission Application box in the middle of the page? Mine still says “Thank you for applying to the University of Washington! Because you have submitted an application for admission to one or more UW campuses and/or undergraduate programs, some information about your application and other services are now available to you through this MyUW portal.”

Also: In the MyUW page, after clicking on the Admissions tab and Unofficial UW Transcript link, what appears? Mine shows a The page cannot be displayed webpage.

I would just like a better idea of whether or not I was already rejected. I’m hoping to major in Mechanical Engineering.

I got an acceptance email from EE department, reject from CSE. However, I didn’t hear any from the admission of the school. So, am i out of luck.

I’m pretty sure you will be admitted. Just wait for your letter.

I don’t think it’s possible for you to be admitted to a department within the UW without having been admitted to the school.

Finally I got an offer from the EE department. This is my second try. I didn’t take any other classes since my first try. I just worked really hard in my personal statement, and I made it really good.

So, don’t give up, and focus in writing excellent P.S.

Good luck for everyone here.

Did you just take the quarter off or something? How are your grades?

I’d really appreciate it if someone could answer my question about five posts above.

UWs ME department (and many closed majors) are now as of this year, admitting students into the school only if the applicant is accepted into the department. For instance, the application for ME now goes through the ME department only (if ME is the sole major declared on the application).

ME conformation emails are in as of this evening.

Well, if the department admitted you, then chances that the UW won’t accept you are very very little. Most likely, you will be rejected only if you don’t satisfy their “technical” requirements like the CADR.

ME0891, if you are admitted, what will appear if you click on your “Unofficial Transcript” is actually your unofficial transcript. It won’t show any transferred credits, but it will show your name, your student ID and your major. If you don’t see your unofficial, this is not a sign that you are rejected though. Anyway, I would check for your unofficial every evening.

feyman999, How did you know that the ME confirmation emails were already sent? I have not received mine and my Application Status for the Engineering Application has a big red X under the Admission Decision Email Sent column. My friend who received his rejection email actually has a date under the Admission Decision Email Sent column.

Maybe they didn’t respond to you yet cause you might be borderline accepted / waitlisted

I received a somewhat informal email last night at 6:40pm saying that I have been accepted to the ME department. My unofficial transcript still doesn’t show up and the Engineering application page still shows a red X under “decision email sent”. It seems to me that they were deliberating until the very end of the day on Friday.

I’m so glad that my wait is over, and I wish the best for all of you who are still waiting.

So CSE had us take a survey after, not sure about the other engeering deparments, but has anyones major changed yet, because mine is still intended major.

Yes, I took one quarter off.
My grades were not that good. I got one (-B). My GPA on the prerequisite classes is 3.4. Also, note that I am transferring from C.C. not 4-year university.

I strongly recommend you to meet one of the ee advisers, and meet with most of the ee instructors and talk with them about anything, for instance a future opportunity for undergraduate project in their area of concentrations. This will make them remember your you during the evaluation.

Also, in your personal statement, you must be very specific about what you will do after you get admitted to the department, and how a degree in UW will help you achieve your future goals.

Good luck

Thank you for the advice. I’ll work on a better personal statement next time, especially about the future plans. I feel like I didn’t really talk about that. Also, I’m going to have to take new courses since the advisor I talked to emphasized my grades (they weren’t bad, but there was a downward trend heh). I only have 1 quarter to do this, though, since the next application will close on Feb 1.

I’m curious about the undergraduate projects. What did they tell you when you asked about it?

ME0909, if you don’t mind me asking how were your grades in the prerequisite courses?

http://www.me.washington.edu/students/undergraduate/advising/2011-12_ME-advising-guide.pdf

I calculated my GPA using the courses suggested for freshman and sophomore year. My GPA was a little over a 3.0.

I still have not received an email from the ME department yet.

Still waiting on ME for me too. Applied early admission with a 3.6 GPA for prereqs.

My prereq GPA is 3.4 if you look at all the schools that I have attended. It’s 3.8 if you only look at my CC grades. I repeated all of the classes I took at the other school at CC.
