Im going to be a freshman at U of Illinois in fall 2009 in mechanical Engineering. I also was thinking of rushing a frat. Is this too much or is it doable. Some people have told me that engineering takes alot of time which i could see but would i still be able to enjoy myself and be in a frat? post your opinions
thanks

it can be done but i think your gonna really have to turn it on (studying) during your time when you are away from your frat commitments.

I'm 1000% sure at UofI there are people in MechE and frats who have great GPAs. You just have to work really hard, or come in with a lot of AP credit so you can take a lax first semester whe you're pledging.

Yes, lots of people do it. Manage your time well and it'll still be hard but it's certainly possible.

Of course it's possible. A lot of straight-on engineering schools have strong greek systems, including RPI, Purdue, Georgia Tech, etc

^^boysx3 is right. About 50% of students at MIT are part of a greek system. Academics is important, but a social life keeps you sane and ready to work hard. Perhaps joining a frat will help you balance your life.

Rushing a frat takes up a lot of time the semester that you rush, but after that, you have more free time. so try to take a relatively easy course load the semester that you rush. I know a tonnn of guys who are in frats and majoring in engineering. most of them are doing fine. ;)

thanks for all the input
