Engineering and GPA in Admissions

Hello, I'll hopefully be going to UF for college and I am looking into the future as a potential law school applicant. I want to study engineering, and I know it is a tough degree. I want to eventually go to the UF law school where the median gpa is a 3.4-3.5 ish. I know this GPA would be quite hard to get as an engineering major, but I really would want to go there.

I understand that often major does not matter, as I have done some research.

But I was wondering if any weight is placed on an engineering degree and GPA as far as diversity, a scaling system, or anything like that? If I want to get into law, but do engineering, would I be better off with a different degree?

I don't necessarily want to do patent law, but I want to do engineering because I like it.

Thanks.

Law schools are aware that engineering GPAs are usually lower overall at universities than those in LAS and do give some consideration to that fact but you should not assume it is a lot or that it is specifiaclly quantified .

You don’t get a bump for being an engineer in law school admissions. It is unfair, but the truth. However, it could help you get a patent law job if that is what you want and these jobs are great because not as many JDs are qualified for them.

Edit: Just realized you said you didn’t want to go into patent law. I would advise against engineering then, but if you like it I’m not going to tell you not to do it.
