Engineering Application Supplement

I remember reading somewhere, when selecting my major on the app, that applicants to Berkeley's COE have to provide some kind of 200 word supplement to the normal UC app essays.

Since reading that, I don't see anything about it on the application, and no one I've spoken to has heard of it.

Please could someone clarify this for me?

I applied last year and I definitely didn't have to do a supplement.

...but then again, I'm not sure how the process has changed for this year.

I've never heard of this. Perhaps they're suggesting you use the additional comments section to expand on something engineering-related.

I have never heard about this.

Ok, thanks for the replies. I asked around at school some more, and no one else has heard of it either. I swear, I was 100% positive I saw that written next to the box when I selected engineering as my major. Was I hallucinating??? :S

maybe you're getting your applications confused...

maybe you're thinking of this...

"What if I am applying to a professional school
or college (such as the College of Engineering
or Chemistry)?
If you are applying to a professional school or
college, it is important that you discuss:
-your intended field of study in your personal statement;
-your interest in your specific major;
-any school or work-related experience"

..that was from this:http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/9258_personal_statement.pdf

I think kyledavid80 posted this on some other thread.

Im losing my mind. I swear I saw it explicitly state that prospective engineers had to write a 200 word supplement about why they want to be engineers. The stress? I don't even worry about things like this that much. :S

I'm pretty sure they mean you might want to use the additional comments to talk about something to do with engineering -- your interest in it, etc.

the additional comments section (ps3) does not count towards the 1000 word restriction right?

Correct. Only the first two essays are counted in the 1000 words. I think the additional comments section has a 500-word limit.
