Engineering + arts

Hi , I wanted to find out if there were colleges out there that offered courses similar to the bachelors of digital culture offered by Arizona state university. This degree is offered by the arts school but has a fixed number of engineering basic course included. Thanks in advance.

[Digital Culture Initiative | Cross-Institute | Degrees | ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts](Digital Culture | Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts)

This degree is offered in 9 different concentrations.
Art
Arts and Design Studies
Design
Film
Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance
Media Processing
Music
Technological Entrepreneurship
Theatre

Which one are you interested in? You might try the forums under the different major(s) that match your desired concentration, For instance, if you are interested in music as a concentration in the digital culture BA, try the music forum here. Folks there can fill you in on other schools for music and technology.

ps Off the top: Cal Arts and School of the Chicago Institute.

Copied from the UTD website:

The Arts and Technology (ATEC) program at the University of Texas at Dallas merges the innovation processes of artists, scientists and engineers.

ATEC explores their experimental models through new technologies. It augments the study of the arts and humanities by engagement with the research tools, measures and practices of the sciences and technology. ATEC offers degree programs from the BA through the Ph.D. that prepare more than 1,100 students to achieve in fields of e-culture design, research and development.

A complementary major, Emerging Media and Communication (EMAC), focuses on the uses, impact and implications of digital technology for communication, culture and commerce.

Carnegie Mellon offers BXA (Bachelor’s of X and Art), a double degree program in their college of fine arts and, well, whatever else. Bachelor’s of Engineering and Arts is pretty common

OP. You might want to seriously look at Cooper Union in New York…they are known for having an outstanding programs in engineering and the arts…

[CG@Penn | DMD Program](http://www.dmd.upenn.edu)

Thanks for this info. It is helpful for artists who also like engineering.

S is a junior in this program, and loves it.

[Acoustical Engineering and Music | University of Hartford](http://hartford.edu/ceta/undergraduate/engineering/AEM/default.aspx)

Thanks a lot, everyone. I know the Carnegie mellon program is extremely competitive…I think only two or three candidates get accepted.

The program my son is interested in is theater and technology. I will post in that forum.

Appreciate your time and responses.

Wow, what a great thread! I’m so glad to know of the programs at ASU, Penn, and Hartford. (Knew about UTD already)

Seems there are more than a few students who want to combine engineering with some sort of design/art/music.

Would love to see more suggestions.

Human Factors Engineering, where you get to do some design, some engineering, develop user experience stuff, etc.

Thanks again…the two year graduate program at Carnegie mellon at the entertainment technology center is the final goal… so what bachelors program would help you get there?

At this point my son who is in his junior year, would not qualify for the BXA program at carnegie mellon as the acceptance rate is very low…any other programs he could do at other colleges to get him there.

I saw university of hartford and uPenn… any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Look at Emerson in Boston.

Industrial design is one major that combines engineering, art, and ergonomics/human interface.
