anyone know how good the engineering dept is at Brown? even better, anyone here who is in engineering at Brown who can enlighten me?

i was an engineer my first year at brown and ended up dropping it just because i didn't want to keep doing engin. it's a great dept....the profs i dealt with were all really involved with the students and we got to get right into the design process, designing and building a project from scratch our first semester.

downsides - tough as hell, esp if you're biomed engin. also, you don't get a lot of flexibility in the courses you take.

my advice: if you're thinking about engin, enter as an engineer. it's real, real easy to get out if you decide you don't like it and a lot of the first semester courses you take will transfer if you end up in another ScB concentration. (That's a BS in non-Brown speak). On the other hand, switching into engin after a while pretty much means you won't graduate in four years.

Hope that helps.

thanks a bunch!
