i really like cmu but they don't offer the major that i want which is industrial engineering.
i really need help looking into another possible engineering major that is similar and "easy" to get in...

or should i just not apply to cmu?

any suggestions...

Mech engineering. Any kind of engineering is possible and they are all about equal difficulty to get in, with the exception of ECE.

MechE has some concentrations which are very similar to IE, so you could get a bit of that curriculum, but you’d still have to take the MechE core. If you’re dead set on IE you might want to look elsewhere, though.

If you’re into more quantitative parts of IE you should also look into Operations Research (OR) and systems engineering.

do they offer operations research and systems engineering in cmu?

how would u guys describe the work of a materials engineer? i’m more interested in the math side of things…would this be similar to ie at all?

Materials isn’t similar to IE at all, unless maybe you go to try and manage production lines at a steel mill or something (and, even then, I’m not sure if they’d prefer MSE over IE for that kind of job). And, speaking as a materials engineering from CMU, I wouldn’t say there’s nearly as much math in MSE as in something like OR or EE.
