So any recommendations of where to go for mechanical engineering? I've already applied to Cal Poly Pomona, San Diego and San Jose State. I just need one more. Cal Poly SLO is an obvious choice but I'm not confident at all about getting in. Plus I can't say I really want to go there anyway. I will not be applying to any UCs for personal and financial reasons. I really hate it at UCI so there's no point in going back to that system.

I’d apply to Long Beach or Northridge if you’re a SoCal resident.

OP’s location says “Norcal kid stuck in UCI”. The northern California CSUs with mechanical engineering are Chico, Sacramento, San Francisco, and San Jose.

What I’d really like to know is how the rest of the CSU engineering programs fair with those main 4. I’ve heard much more promising and great things about them but it seems like the other 19 are basically unheard of. I’ve done searches but I can’t come up with anything solid. The only thing I did manage to find is that CSULA and CSULB are possible candidates but that’s it.

@UCBChemEGrad

CSULB eh? Any idea how it fairs against CSUN and CSULA?

@ucbalumnus

I know they offer it but not quite what I’m looking for. Also I’m willing to stay here in Socal. Sac State is eh, SFSU mostly focuses on health and Chico is… something else.

I would imagine that most of them other than SLO attract mainly local recruiting.
