I am a senior in high school and dual enroll at FIU. I will have 63 credits with AP exams, 51 without and I have a weighted 5.7 high school GPA.

I want to major in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, or chemistry/biology (double major.) I also love the environment and marine biology but those don't have good career options. But my english teacher thinking I should get into the arts or communications.

UF has the best engineering program in Florida but I was denied. That was one school I wanted to get into and never thought of the other schools as options. I could try to transfer for Spring 2012 after getting my AA at FIU but I'm not sure if it's worth it. I want to get out of Miami as soon as possible.

I'm really liking the idea of FSU but it's engineering program is not spoken of highly and neither is it as an academic school in general. But then again perhaps engineering isn't the major for me.

PLUS I know nothing about UCF or USF

I don't know what to do! Any information on any of the schools will be a HUGE help. Please please please! I need advice.

what school did you apply to ???

I got into FSU FIU and USF
Im waiting for a response from UM and UCF
and I was denied by UF

No idea where you are getting your information, but Florida State University is an excellent academic university. It was recently rated as a “Budget Ivy” by Fiske, a former New York Times education writer: [Searching the Bargain Bin for a Premier Public Education - NYTimes.com](<a href=“Searching the Bargain Bin for a Premier Public Education - The New York Times”>Searching the Bargain Bin for a Premier Public Education - The New York Times)

Plus, FSU was rated the 4th Best Value Public University in 2010 by USA Today and the Princeton Review: [Best Value Colleges for 2010 and how they were chosen - USATODAY.com](http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/best-value-colleges.htm)

According to US News (a dubious source in my opinion), UF has the best engineering program in Florida by a wide margin. UCF is a distant second, followed closely by FSU’s engineering program.

For other subjects, use a program-by-program comparison. I’d avoid UCF in general due to a poor student-faculty ratio and the lack of a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Ditto USF.

Well thank you for that information. I had been researching for a few days and hadn’t stumbled upon anything supporting FSU too much. I really want to go to FSU but because it is not a great engineering school I’m afraid of attending.
Another contributing factor is that I could change majors in the future and most likely be content at FSU while pursuing another major.
I’m visiting these colleges during Spring Break and am going to try to talk to all of them about their academic programs and see which convinces me best.
Thank you again! The more Information the better :)
