I was admitted into general engineering at Galveston.
I searched the website and found that if my GPA is above 3.5,
I will be automatically enrolled into COLLEGE STATION in the second year.
IF MY GPA IS NOT ABOVE 3.5,
DOES IT MEANS I CAN’T GET INTO COLLEGE STATION???
@charlesyen, Congrats on your admittance. As a first-year engineering student, you will apply to your specific engineering major at the end of freshman year (provided all requirements are met). You will go through the same Entry to a Major (ETAM) process as students in College Station. Earning a 3.5 GPA or higher guarantees your first-choice major; however, please keep in mind, that last year, 90% of ALL freshman engineering students applying received their first choice major. Acceptance into a major allows you to study at College Station beginning your sophomore year (except for Ocean Engineering, a program conducted at TAMU Galveston). You can read more about the ETAM process here: https://engineering.tamu.edu/academics/advisors-procedures/entry-to-a-major
To add on to what @lee6666 stated, here is the analysis of all the majors from the last cycle. Acceptance into Mechanical Engineering for example, the highest GPA was 4.0 and the lowest was a 2.5. When you go through the process of applying to major, you will list 5 majors in order of preference. https://engineering.tamu.edu/academics/advisors-procedures/entry-to-a-major/resources/analysis-spring-2016-admission-cycle
Thank you @lee6666 and @Thelma2 !!!
I think I will choose to study at Galveston for the first year and do my best to get the high GPA.
@charlesyen Congratulations! Make sure you apply for housing by March 1 for priority status http://tamug.edu/reslife/Housing/Apply.html and make sure to take care of these steps. You should have these portals on your AIS and a checklist of what you need to take care of. Make sure not to miss deadlines. https://engineering.tamu.edu/academics/engineering-at-galveston/next-steps
@Thelma2 If I still wait for some universities admission ,should I apply for housing by March 1st?
If I apply after March 1st,does it means I have no room to sleep?
@charlesyen You will have some place to sleep. But do not put off anything. Be over prepared. That will go for your classes next year as well. It is better to be over prepared and not need some of what you have done, than be under prepared and last minute.
I would not wait until March 1. I would do it today. It sets a priority date, and the longer you wait, the further down the list you are. You will have to pay the $50 application fee and the $300 housing deposit.
Then, if you are accepted somewhere else that you would rather attend, you will log back into your A&M AIS and select the tab to decline the admissions offer. Once you formally delcline, you will then contact reslife to be refunded the housing deposit but not the housing application fee. Read this. It explains it all. http://www.tamug.edu/reslife/Housing/Housing%20Application%20and%20Assignment.html
So does a student have to accept before applying for housing? I am still hopeful that my student can change to an open major at College Station.
No @123vca. you do not have to accept your admissions to apply for housing.
Have you been admitted to Galveston yet? You should have a links on your AIS that takes you to the housing portal for Galveston as well as your next steps.
