My child is interested in engineering. D is not yet sure about which type of engineering.
D is a Junior. When applying to UCs how do we apply to Engineering? Is there provision for engineering in general or do we have to specify the branch of engineering for major?
We are interested in UCSB, UCI, UCDavis, and Santa Cruz.

UCSC: You can apply to Undeclared. But declaring an engineering major requires some minimum GPA. [Advising Clusters - Engineering and Computing General Information](<a href=“Advising Clusters”>Advising Clusters)

Presumably, at the schools where Engineering Undeclared is not available, you can apply to and enter as Undeclared, but then have to apply to declare an engineering major based on GPA and prerequisite courses (UCSC appears similar to this). You have to do more research to see how difficult this process is.

I’m a 4th year Civil Engineering student at UCI. It’s a great school for engineering, very dedicated with research and facilities / opportunities for undergraduate research. (Looks GREAT when applying for Grad school). UCI’s Engineering is VERY competitive. I consider myself average amongst a lot of the students, and Prof. are always bringing in Professionals to lecture to the students about the field. If your child were to go to UCI, I assure you he/she would receive a top notch engineering education! Let me know if you have any specific questions about UCI’s Engineering school, I will do my best to answer them.
