I don’t disagree with anything you wrote. However, this all has to do with what he would associate Google and its origins with. That’s not the same as asking what school he would associate himself with.

I’m not going to argue that Michigan is better than Stanford, has better resources than Stanford, has smarter people than Stanford, or anything like that, since none of these statements are true. For sure, Page couldn’t have created Google at UM.

Still, that has nothing to do with which school he associates himself with, or which school he would choose to donate to.

Has he donated large sums of money to either Stanford or Michigan? If he hasn’t why would it be assumed that he will in the future? Not everyone who has lots of money decides to give it away.

Now, given I know absolutely nothing about Larry Paige, I’m just wondering what makes everyone thing he wants to donate to either school?

It is spelled “Page” folks! hehe! I agree that he will end up giving over a billion dollars, but not all of it to Michigan. He will give roughly 40% to Michigan and 40% to Stanford. The rest will be given to other universities. So I doubt he will en up giving as much as $2 billion to Michigan. I would estimate $400-$500 million, which is still more than enough for the University to name the CoE after him! LOL!

I also don’t think it will be in the too-distant future. Once the market recovers, Michigan will launch a new campaign to double its endowment in 5 years and I am relatively sure that Page will be to that campiagn what Ross was to the last one.

^ lol…probably paid in google stocks. I dont think a lot of people can have 1 billion in liquid cash laying around. And liquidating 1 billion worth of google stocks in a short period of time in the market is probably not a great option either :)

That’s correct bearcats. When people give hundreds of millions of dollars to universities, it is usually not in cash but in stocks. Few people would have that much laying around in cash.

I heard about this guy, the B of BEA now part of Oracle donated some $250M worth of stock to his alma mater U of Colorado. Then the dot com bust happened and the value of the donation dropped to $50M or something like that.
