So now that most decisions are out and I’m pretty sure I’m not getting into an Ivy (rejected from Northwestern and CMU) I need help selecting the college that would be best for me. I got into WUSTL and Georgia Tech for undecided engineering. I also got into UIUC for Materials Engineering but I’m not really considering that because it’s in the middle of nowhere and from what I’ve heard read the only fun thing to do is get drunk.
- My parents make ~$200k a year. International student here. We live in a city with no public services at all and my sister might go to the US for grad school next year. Although Georgia Tech is more affordable they'd be willing to pay for WUSTL if they think it's the better option. Also, they don't know ANYTHING about colleges in the US so they're getting all their info from me and an uncle who used to be an adcom for Yale.
- I know Georgia Tech is better known for engineering but I want to go to a school where I think I'll have fun and fit in and WUSTL seems to be the better option in that case. However, is "atmosphere" and "experience" worth the extra $25k a year?
- Does WUSTL's engineering department have a good reputation? Would I be able to get a paid internship in my sophomore/junior year in WUSTL? I'll probably go for enviro eng after I start college and I thought it was a bit odd that their chemical and environmental engineering programs were mixed. From what I've seen, Civil and Environmental are usually the ones that go together.
- I really, really don't want to give up my social life in college. Can someone please convince me this won't be the case if I go to GTech? I don't drink but I'm open to some other things and I do want to go out on weekends. Not interested in greek life at all.
Also I really want to take some social sciences/humanities courses in college and explore other majors. So which university is the better option? Really confused about this.
