Which part of engineering is most practical for starting a small/medium sized business with good future growth potential within a few years after gettin out of college?

Ive been admitted to the College of Upenn and will have the possibility of transferring to the engineering school of Penn if I deem it prosperous for a career in business.

People start businesses ranging from coffee houses to hi-tech start-ups to manufacturing companies to you-name-it. I don't see how it is possible to give a general answer regarding which engineering specialty is most practical for starting a business soon after college.

Do you have a particular line of business in mind?

If you don't, study what you love. Developing an idea and a passion are key elements to starting a successful business. Surrounding yourself with the right people is another key element. Understanding what makes a business successful is another key element - you can learn that through the school of hard knocks, read books like Entrepreneuring, take some business classes in entrepreneuring/marketing/strategic planning.
