I’d appreciate any opinions of my chances of getting into UAs engineering program (or possibly Honors) with the following stats:

3.3 GPA UW
SAT M-680 CR-660
1340/1600 2000/2400
At the end of my junior year I have 1 AP & 3 Honors
Scheduled next year for 3 APs & 3 Honors
Top 25% of class
Excellent ECs
3 Varsity letters
Great recommendations
URM

The 3.3 is unweighted - if it computes to a 3.5 or higher weighted (which it likely does) you will be eligible for the following automatic scholarships depending on in-state or OOS: Your guidance counselor should submit it for you weighted, UA takes whichever score is higher.

In-State -
Presidential Scholar
An in-state first-time freshman student who meets the December 1st scholarship priority deadline, has a 30-36 ACT or 1330-1600 SAT score and at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA will be selected as a Presidential Scholar and will receive the value of in-state tuition for four years.

Out of State -
UA Scholar
An out-of-state first time freshman student who meets the December 1st scholarship priority deadline, has a 30-31 ACT or 1330-1390 SAT score and at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA will be selected as a UA Scholar and will receive 2/3 tuition for four years.

Honors College is also a lock -
Incoming students with a 28 ACT or 1250 SAT will be automatically accepted to the Honors College upon submission of their application to the Honors College. Students will be notified of their acceptance via mail.

Looks good! I hope you can get down to visit soon :)

Wow! Great answer AL34. Hopefully my GC will report my weighted GP instead of my UW. If she sends in the UW GPA am I still competitive for Alabama Engineering? I understand that my UW GPA won’t get me any merit scholarships, but evidently Honors will only look at my SAT scores…right?

Do you know anything about UAs Engineering program? I’ve heard that Alabama is investing in their engineering programs and that there is a new building(s).

With those test scores you should have no problem getting in with your GPA. There are threads upon threads here about UA Engineering, from both students and parents. All I can say right now is that we were impressed enough after reading, visiting and researching everything that we confidentally sent our son off a few weeks ago (Comp. Science, College of Engineering). Time will tell but so far he is really loving his classes and profs., the curriculum seems appropriately rigorous, and he could not be happier.

The new building complex is called Shelby, search on it here in this forum.

Look at the links below for pics and renderings of three phases of the future four phase Shelby complex. The third phase started construction in December of last year, and the fourth phase will start later this year.
