My first post is a chances thread. :o

Single Sitting:2260(Math:750,CR:750,W:760)
I retook it and scored lower, will that affect me negatively?. :( 2220(Math:800,CR:700,W:720)

GPA:97.5% School doesn't weight (cos they don't offer APs)
Rank-1/330 (tied with another person)

APs:
School doesn't offer them but took them all studying on my own.

Other-
I go to high school in India but I am a US citizen so I will be applying as a domestic applicant. Like I mentioned in the thread title, I'm interested in EECS at Berkeley and I am applying to Stanford SCEA. In addition to these schools I am applying for computer science to-
MIT
Caltech
Cornell
UIUC
Univ of Michigan
GeorgiaTech
Duke

Can you guys give me some sort of rough percentage chances? Appreciate it.

Berkeley - Match
Stanford - Reach
MIT - Reach
Caltech - Slight Reach
Cornell - Match
UIUC - Low Match
Univ of Michigan - Low Match/Safety
GeorgiaTech - Low Match
Duke - Slight Reach

The schools I tagged as reaches and slight reaches are reaches and slight reaches only because their admit percentages are so low (between 10 and 20%). However, you'd be a strong applicant at each of these schools, and you have a better than average chance at each of them. I expect you'll get into at least a couple of the reaches/slight reaches.

By the way, have you considered Carnegie-Mellon? It's one of the top tech schools in the U.S.

Also, don't worry about scoring lower the second time around on your SATs. Schools always take the top scores in each section among all your sittings.

collegejunkie:

UCB: Match (out of state, Engineering)

Berkeley - Match
Stanford - Reach
MIT - Reach
Caltech - Reach
Cornell - Slight Reach
UIUC - Safety
Univ of Michigan - Safety
GeorgiaTech - Safety
Duke - Slight Reach

i thought about CMU but it's in pittsburgh and i really can't stand the cold(really hot home weather:D). It's not known as widely as the other colleges or am i mistaken? i'm not sure if i'm in-state for cal or not becuase i was born in cali, we still maintain a home there and my dad travels back and forth frequently.I am probably there for 3 months of the year. Does that make me in-state?

@datadriven, is cornell a reach for me? i thought it was more of a match.

could you guys suggest some more good tech schools? thanks a lot. :)

i just found out that i'm considered a california resident. :) will that affect my chances greatly?

CMU...[is]in pittsburgh and i really can't stand the cold(really hot home weather). It's not known as widely as the other colleges or am i mistaken?

You're right about the weather in Pittsburgh but you are mistaken about Carnegie Mellon's reputation. It very well known, especially for tech. It's got a top 10 engineering school and one of the best, if not the best, computer and electrical engineering progams in the country. It also has a top ten B school (Tepper) and is ranked #21 by U.S. News, the same rank as UC Berkeley.

Other schools you might want to consider:

Case Western Reserve
Rensselaer Poly Tech

Both would be safeties for you.

you could get into IIT with those grades :O

collegejunkie:

UCB: Safe Match (Engineering)

MIT:Reach
Stanford:Reach
Berkeley:Match
Cornell:Match
UIUC:Safety
Univ of Michigan:Safety
GeorgiaTech:Safety

Have you considered Harvey Mudd?

Big BADA Bump!!:)

that makes no sense, u cant stand the cold in pittsburgh but u can stand the cold at MIT and cornell which are considerably colder?

I'm applying to MIT because it's MIT and to Cornell because my sister's an undergrad student there already
