Engineering College Dilema

I am an international student and am applying to engineering colleges. I have good grades, very good recommendations and a decent list of extra-curriculars and community service. I recently scored 100 in AS Level Mathematics and will give my final exams in may/june 2012. My SAT score, however, is just average. I have taken the ACT and I am waiting for the results.

Which engineering colleges should I apply to? Do I have a chance at some top engineering colleges? If so, what please specify.

Without telling us the SAT scores and your grades, it is very hard to give you a sense of whether you have a chance at the most selective schools. However, you say that your scores are not particularly strong and that will reduce your possibilities.

As for suggestions, look at the [Association of Independent Technological Universities: AITU](http://www.theaitu.org) schools. These include not only a number of the most prestigious engineering schools in the world (MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Cal Tech, RPI, and so on) but some smaller schools which are very strong in engineering but have somewhat less selective admissions. These include [url=<a href=“http://www.iit.edu%5DIllinois”>http://www.iit.edu]Illinois Institute of Technology/url, Stevens Institute and others. This would be a good place to start and some of them do give scholarships to international students.

In addition, you can look at some of the larger public universities which engineering programs. A lot of them may not be in the “top 20” but are still very good. Just look at their engineering college web sites and see if you like a big or smaller school best.
