Engineering college with nordic skiing

I am looking for a college that has a good engineering program and will allow me to nordic ski, it would be great if they have a nordic skiing team but that is not a requirement.

I am a senior at Central high school in St. Paul,MN. It is a fairly large public school with my class size around 530 and there are some very high performing students. My GPA is somewhat low but I hope to increase it some in this last year and try to test highly and use that.

ACT: (plan to take again hoping for a very high score)
english 24
mathematics 26
reading 29
sci reas 23
composite: 28

class rank: 91 out of 538
GPA (non-weighted):3.42
I have taken the most advanced classes possible including 6 AP tests with at least 4 more to take this year.
AP calc AB 4
AP human geo 4
AP physics B 4
AP physics C mechanics 3 (may take again)
AP us history 3
AP chemistry 3

Extracurricular aren't great I am the captain of the nordic ski team for the second year and have been varsity all four years. I also am part of a newly formed mountain biking team as well as being on a non school related road biking team.

Colleges I am planning to apply to:
University of Minnesota-twin cities
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Michigan tech
University of Colorado-boulder (a little too expensive)
University of Michigan-ann arbor (expensive and a bit of a stretch)

Clarkson, UVM.
perhaps Syracuse or U. Rochester, RIT - (they usually get plenty of snow but I don’t know how close they are to ski facilities.
DO you know your EFC and have you looked if the OOS schools you are looking at give good aid to OOS students?
Not sure your GPA is high enough to get much for merit aid…

As you know, Michigan and Madison are both reaches. Your grades also put you in the bottom quartile for engineering at U MN.

So, you need safeties…Montana State University. NCAA varsity Nordic and alpine ski teams. Mountain biking readily available. Good engineering programs.

You would qualify for a $6,000 scholarship.

Ah, you already have Michigan Tech, definitely should be on your list.

Also, I can’t imagine that there is much cross country skiing going on in Ann Arbor; I grew up about 30 miles from there, and we were lucky if we could cross country a few times a winter. It is cold enough to snow, but a lot of times it melts fast and is just gray & rainy instead. Even if they have a club sport, it is probably doing a lot of dryland training.

University of Minnesota Duluth has engineering and a nordic club team. You might look for other schools in Maine (I know some of the LACs there have nordic teams), Vermont, and upstate New York as well – gotta go where the snow is, of course.

Definitely UM-Duluth. Looks like a very good fit for you.
