Engineering College

How hard is it to get into compared to the other colleges?

What is the average workload? Such as, how much hours per day of study, etc.

Do most engineering majors stay for 4 years? or possibly 4.5 and even 5?

What is considered a 'good' GPA?

Can anyone with experience enlighten me?

Thanks in advance.

I’m not in Engineering, but all the people I hang out with are engineers haha so I’ll answer a few of these.

They do have a lot of work, especially with labs and whatnot. I think just about all of them do the 5 year program with 3 co-ops (not sure if that’s required? Actually, I know someone in chemical engineering who’s thinking about doing 4 years/2 co-ops because she’s planning on going to grad school).

What are co-ops?

You need to read up on Northeastern:

[College of Engineering > Cooperative Education](http://www.coe.neu.edu/coe/cooperativeeducation/index.html)

Most engineers do 5 years with two or three co-ops because its one of the hardest majors/colleges to condense down to 4 years.

Here, 3.3 is about average for my engineer friends. It’s a tough group. But its a field that can’t really be replaced by anything else if thats what you want to do, so its worth it to them.

Seriously, don’t pick a school because the engineering students here spend one hour more or less on homework a day than at some other school… Chances are, you’ll spend the same amount of time working at one school as you would at another- it’s about the effort YOU put in. And it will vary greatly by what classes you are taking each semester. Pick a school because you love it and it offers everything you want, not because you think you’ll have a .1 higher gpa than at someplace else.
