Engineering colleges with generous merit aid

Hi,
My son is looking for an engineering college with generous merit aid. His GPA is a 3.6, current ACT is 27, just took ACTagain, so it should go up. Does he qualify for any merit aid with these stats? He is looking at Rutgers, Stevens, RIT..Can you recommed schools with solid engineering programs that would give him aid? thanks n advance.

There are some big merit scholarships for stats in this list:

Florida A&M, Howard, and Prairie View A&M have full tuition or full ride scholarships for his current stats; others may become available if he scores a 30 or 32 on the ACT (or equivalent score on the SAT).

Some competitive ones are listed here:

Thank you!!

Look at Lafayette. LAC with a strong engineering program and decent merit money.

A 27 isn’t going to qualify someone for merit aid at Lafayette.

Assuming you’re a NJ resident, have you thought about NJIT?

Also, how much merit will you need to afford college? $20,000 in merit isn’t going to do much if the net price ends up being around $35,000 but you can only afford $15,000.

An ACT 27 isn’t going to get merit (or much merit) at most of the “known schools”. Their eng’g students have ACTs in the 30-36 range.

However, if he raises his score significantly, there may be some schools.

For example, if he were to get an ACT 30, then Alabama would give him free tuition plus 2500 per year for eng’g. Bama is probably the highest ranked school that would give THAT much merit for an ACT 30.

If you son gets an ACT 28/29, then he should look at Miss St.

How much merit does he need? In other words, how much do you want your remaining costs to be?

For instance, if you only can pay $10-15k per year, then he’d need AT LEAST a full tuition scholarship.

UAB would give him $12,000 per year for his current stats.
