Engineering computer BYOD

I’m currently stuck in between the HP Z book studio g3 and the Dell Precision 5510. I will be starting in the aero program this summer. Please advise on preferences. The Dell model is about $40 more expensive. Both have comparable specs.

Note: Dell has a better processor. HP has a better graphics card.

@gio123 I’ve seen you have engineering advice. Any input?

@Beaudreau got any help for an aero major?

@agmomx2 It has been two years since we got my son’s computer, so I don’t think what we bought then would be particularly relevant now. That is a long time in computer years. Anyway Thomas bought the recommended Dell back then. He has had some problems with the power/battery packs, but otherwise it has been fine. He runs everything fine including Solidworks.

I see more people use a dell. I personally use a macbook but you have go through some loopholes to get some of the similar software windows has. But I would email an aero advisor. Here is the link https://engineering.tamu.edu/aerospace/academics/advising
