engineering/computer science in the pacific northwest

Son is interested in biomedical engineering. Are checking out University of Washington and perhaps Seattle University.

Are there any other schools in the Pacific Northwest that have engineering and/or computer science?

Don't want to look further south than Washington or Oregon, although maybe a Catholic California university would be worth a look.

Thanks for any info!

Oregon State.

Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA and Washington State University in Pullman, WA have engineering and computer science.

Western Washington University in Bellingham has computer science.

Oregon State and the University of Portland are the go-to engineering schools in Oregon (U of O does have computer science, though).

The University of Washington completely crushes all those schools with its name, though.

In all honesty, there are hardly any good biomed programs up there. The best few on the west coast alone that’s reasonably affordable would probably be UCSD then UCLA, but that’s down in southern California. If you’re really determined to stick to that region, expect to sacrifice a little on the “good education” part.

As for computer science, you can’t get better than Berkeley and Stanford, but again that’s a little out of your region.

Mrs Montegut,

I am writing this both as a current student and Catholic. I cannot implore you more to not influence and limit your child to only Catholic universities. While many of them offer unique and mind opening spiritual opportunities, there are an array of other amazing universities available. I was personally considering Notre Dame to be one of my favorites…until I went and visited. To me it seemed contrite, snobbish and too upright for a “real” university experience.

In no way am I trying to degrade your beliefs, but please, let it be you sons choice.

As for BME, Stanford, UCB, UCLA are all good schools. If he’s willing to travel cross country, Northwestern, JHU are also some other notables. Can’t go wrong with UWash though.

Udub bias. DS is a staff ME/CS research engineer working in this field of mechanical and computer science at Udub. Bioengineering covers a lot of basic sciences.
