So I am a high school senior wanting to major in Aerospace Engineering and one of my college choices is Ohio State University. While poking around on their website today (FYI it took me a while to find this…), I saw that the deadline for engineering majors is November 1, the same time as Early Action. I was not planning to apply Early Action at all because my junior year grades aren’t that great, so I haven’t done the necessary paperwork to fill out my transcript and test scores to get it sent out and get a recommendation. Should I go through the stress of getting all of this paperwork sent out now to be an engineering major? Or apply regular decision and apply undeclared?
You cannot assume that if you are admitterd undeclared later that you will easily be able to transfer into engineering while at Ohio State. In fact, you should assume that it will actually be harder to transfer into engineering while at Ohio State than it will be to be admitted as a freshman. Thus, if you actually want to attend Ohio State and major in engineering, you need to get everything in by Nov 1. You thus have almost 3 weeks to get everything done. It is very common for many applicants to colleges to actually get everything done in less time than that. If you request today to have your high school send an offical transcript, it will likely get there in time. if you order SAT or ACT test scores that you have sent now, they will get there in time. You can send transcripts and test scores before sending your actual application. You should be able to complete your common application and submit it by Nov 1. Ohio State does not require any recommendation letters. They are optional and if you want one, find a teacher now who can do it.
