I just got into UCI as a winter transfer, and if in case I end up going there I was wondering what people thought of their engineering department. Specifically mechanical engineering. Any information would help me make my choice.

what i heard a while ago and could easily be false is that mech eng. is our strongest engineering dept.

The mechanical/aerospace engineering program here at UCI is definitely our most prized engineering program along with civil engineering. As a fellow engineering student from San Jose, I'd definitely recommend UCI :].

Thanks for the input. I just found I got into UCLA, so I am going to go there. Had I of not got in there, I would have gladly gone to UCI.

????? how did you already get into UCLA???

They only except students to the engineering college for the winter quarter. luckily I was I able to take advantage of it.

Can anyone tell me more about civil engineering at UCI?

I plan on going to either UCI or Cal Poly Pomona as a tranfer from community college. I am leaning toward Pomona because I read some negative things about UCI engineering. I'm still at CC so my options are still open...

there's another thread on this very topic on this board.

that student did some research and discovered that irvine is miles ahead of pomona as a university, no big surprise, but is not as strong at the program level. i would plan a visit, talk to everyone i can, particularly those in engineering student clubs like tau beta pi. it sounds like irvine faculty are into their research a lot more than students.

pomona has a very good engineering college but the university seems to be in a lot of trouble. it was reported on another site that pomona cancelled 100 math and science classes for lack of funding--and engineers absolutely need those kind of classes to move on.

if you can get into irvine you can get an admit letter to CPSLO. i'd go there.
