Is there a basic track that the engineering students follow their first year? I'm familiar with the ditribtuion requirements, but do most students take the electives and stuff the first year? Also, does it occurr often that an engineering student does no engineering in their first year at all?

bump......

You'll be preenrolled for a bunch of courses, but during add drop you can change a lot of it around. Basically, for your first few semesters, you'll be doing the general college requirements. Most people's first semester will have ENGRG 150, the engineering intro seminar, a freshman writing seminar, a math (191, 192 typically), intro level chem or physics, and a gym. From there it depends on what your major is - I took intro CS, some will take an ENGRI - basically, it usually makes sense to get out general requirements early on so you can focus your studies on your major later on. Also, doing college requirements instead of major requirements leaves your options open for deciding on a major later, or switching should you decide to.

So if I was undecided between staying in the engineering school or transferring to CAS, I could do the same classes the first year and be fine either way?

also, taking the classes with the engineering school would probably hurt my gpa if i ended up transferring, correct?
