I am a computer and electrical double major and I want to transfer out of FIU after my 1st year there. I got accepted to FSU and planned to attend there. But recently I found out that FSUs engineering program is ranked rather lowly. Therefore, I am now considering applying to UCF and pursuing my degree there. Could you guys suggest which school i should attend and your reasoning?

FSU is a better academic university, but UCF currently has a better engineering program in general. You could visit each and see which fits for you.

Any idea how bad it is though? I liked FSU because it is known and has that classic college feel. But is the program so bad that I shouldnt even consider it? It seems to me that UCF is rather unknown but is improving greatly.

I recently went to FSU for orientation, I liked the main campus for the most part. Tallahassee seems a little boring but not too bad. I also went to the COE while i was there, at first I thought the place was nice but then I noticed how many of the computers still had CRT screens and the tvs were old 19" ones. Which kinda shows that FAMU and FSU have been neglecting the school.

I have been to UCF, but that was at like 3 in the morning, it was a huge school though and looked rather nice. Im planning to head up there soon again to check it out.

However, overall I want to learn something in college and have a degree that is worth something when i graduate.

I guess i may aswell put in an UCF application just in case, sigh.. more waiting..

The CoE at FSU is currently managed by FAMU and FSU. FSU provides most all the faculty, FAMU pays the bills. There has been friction because FSU is very much about advancing academics and becoming a Top-20 national university. FAMU has had significant problems with money management, though they are getting a new president, who will hopefully correct the problems.

At FSU you get an opportunity to work with engineering faculty who probably work at the Mag Lab or have similar experience at a high-level research university. At UCF you may have similar opportunities, but UCF is not as research-oriented as FSU and may never be. You have to see for yourself what you want.

Check out the specific departments at FSU and see if your area is actually engineering or another major.

I suggest visiting each university and discussing your concerns with faculty.
