Is a 3.75 GPA in viterbi worth more or less than like a 3.9 in Marshall or CLAS?
In terms of its value when applying to internships and grad school. just curious.

what internships and what grad school
granted, both are pretty ridiculous GPAs (in a good way)

do individual internship recruiters and grad schools vary in their assessment of this lol? I guess I care more about internships in business (e.g. banks, consulting etc) and business grad school.

the cutoff for most banks is 3.5
if you’re an eng they’ll prob let u slide with a 3.2-3.3
besides that, its up to your network/experience/interviewing skills

MBA cares a lot about work experience and then GMAT; GPA isn’t as big of a factor (major either)

lolz thanks I’ll keep that in mind. cuz like I keep hearing people say that theyd rather have like 3.4 in engineering than like 4.0 in business or some other standard major lol

any other opinions?

It is very common knowledge among grad schools/employers etc though that engineers t end to have lower GPAs and more rigorous coursework right?

I have a 3.8. The university’s Valedictorian two years ago was a civil engineer, she has a 3.98 and was super involved in activities. Being an engineer is no excuse to have bad grades.

^ Yeah I know its no excuse to have bad grades, I have a 3.75 and I will do everything I can to maintain that or improve it, even if it means sacrificing all my free time. I was just wondering if business majors with 3.9s would be more competitive, as many of them will apply to the same internships/ grad schools. Im pretty sure that without Calculus (if i was pure business) Id be getting 3.9 -4.0. I just hope I made the right decision pursuing this dual degree in engineering and business.

Why would you be competing with business majors for internships and grad school? You have a different major than them.

HappyBuddha you are more than fine. i honestly don’t know what you’re worried about lol. anything higher than a 3.5 in engineering is outstanding.

Wouldn’t employers and grad schools still compare my application to other students with different majors - I don’t think they have a quota for each major

@josebiwasabi
Yeah Il be pretty satisfied with anything above 3.5 (this is at least still cum laude level right) but I was just wondering how I would look compared to some other major with a higher gpa in the eyes of a recruiter - cuz like I know some people who have easier classes than mine getting like 4.0s lol

don’t worry, employers aren’t dumb. they know that engineering majors tend to have lower GPAs.

^ lol I hope so

I wouldn’t want to work for a dumb employer that compared me to business majors for the same position anyways.

^ Hahaha lolz true dat
