I did my undergrad at a top-ranked ivy league school in chemistry. My overall GPA is 3.383 and my coursework GPA is 3.46, but my science/math/chemistry coursework GPA in senior/junior years is 3.83. If you include sophomore year, my science GPA is 3.72. I have two conference presentations and one publication in preparation (third or fourth author), all in materials science and engineering. My GRE quant is only 750, and I have yet to take the chemistry GRE. I will have two fairly strong recs (hopefully) and one OK one (probably). I was wondering what you think my chances would be for admission to a top PhD program (Berkeley, MIT) in materials science and engineering. Do you think retaking the general GRE to aim for a higher quantitative score is important?
