Engineering, Harvard and ABET

Many of the schools that provide educations in the engineering disciplines, are accredited with the ABET.

So what does it mean for a student at Harvard in the engineering SEAS school when only the engineering sciences is ABET approved? What does that mean as far as mechanical, etc? since its a concentration...

Any help here would be appreciated.

Meh…I don’t think it matters for a school on the level of Harvard. I doubt you’d have any trouble getting professionally licensed as an engineer or qualifying for graduate admissions. I believe your Harvard engineering sciences education with a mechanical engineering concentration is still accredited by ABET.

If you’re really worried about it, can’t you take some classes at MIT to supplement? Not sure how that works.

Mechanical engineering is a track in the engineering sciences. All of their engineering tracks are ABET accredited. No problems there.

When you go to the ABET site and look at Harvard–it lists Eng Sci not EE, ME etc…
and a degree as an EE or ME for example is a different animal–
Eng Sciences is not the same…

How would one find out more information about Harvards engineering grads
–where they are
–can they sit for a prof exam straight out of Harvard for the ME exam for example

In most disciplines–to get a PE credential–one needs to have gotten an accredited ABET degree right?

ABET accredits programs only, not degrees, departments, colleges, or institutions.

All the engineering disciplines are under the engineering sciences program. The engineering sciences program is ABET qualified.
