I was not expecting a decision from engineering honors program until March, but low and behold I received a letter in the mail today. I got accepted, hooray!

Anybody else?

hey I am going to apply pretty soon for the Engineering Honors Program. I was wondering what your stats were like class rank/gpa and SAT scores? Mine are 20/498 and SAT Math: 730 Writing:640 Critical Reading:640. Do you think I have a good chance at getting in?

I was top 5%, 34 ACT(36 Math, 34 Science), 800 MATH II, 760 Physics.

I called the director, she said one of the most important thing for honors was the rigor of your senior class load.

This year I'm taking:

AP Computer Science AB
AP Calculus BC
AP Physics C
AP English Literature
AP Economics (macro)
AP French V

So I think that helped me. I also spent a lot of time on my essay.

Does that give you some perspective?

congrats quantize!!! Hook 'Em!

thanks JHB! are you in the honors program?

Oh, also, a funny thing. It turns out that UT mixed up the confirmation letters (the one you mail back to them to say that you are attending) for a lot of kids. Both me and my friend got a letter that had some totally random persons name on it! The admission acceptance letter has my name on it though. I called UT, but they're closed til January 5th :(.

congrats dude...when did you apply? and do you get your decision online too? or just the mail?

just mail. applied 11/15

yea thanks a lot quantize.... hopefully I get in but I'm not gonna be too disappointed if I don't because one of my friends from last year didn't get in and he was the Salutatorian... he told me it's just a title and that sometimes it's better not to do honors because you can get a higher GPA in regular classes which is more important.... Here are the AP classes that I am taking this year:
AP English Literature
AP Statistics
AP Chemistry II
AP Macroeconomics (1 Semester - Got a 92 Sem. Avg)
AP U.S. Government
I also did not take any of the SAT subject tests. Will this hurt me?

I applied 10/31 and haven't received any notice on admission to Cockrell or Engineering honors... (instate) top 3%, 2280 sat, 800 math ii, 800 chem. this year i'm taking 5 aps, taken all the AP sciences..

didn't get my early consideration plan ii letter either... i sent an email like they said to but no reply yet..

you can still decline honors if you get in right?

Hmm, I believe so. Not sure really.

Can you find out please as I am also wanting to know this?

I got in and my letter had this random person attached too for the confirmation. My stays were: 13/476, 3.87 uw 5.54 w, sat: 790 cr 650 m 630 wr, ACT: 34 (36 R,35 M, 32 E, 31 S) and i'm black but I don't think that matters at UT.
