Engineering honors program

In short, how do I get in the Engineering honors program?

3.6 GPA

If you wish to pursue it, you will need 2nd semester proficiency in one of the languages they list (Spanish is one but Portuguese is not), 12 credits of cultural classes, and 12 credits of Ross classes.

Is it worth it to pursue? What are the real perks?

It’s not a real honors.

TheLae, if you are interested in taking Ross courses and learning a language anyway, I think it’s worth doing. Otherwise, I don’t think you should bother.

I intend to double-major in Engineering+Business. Then I suppose the honors program would be worth it…?

If you want a more thorough business education don’t do EGL. The business aspect of the program is minimal.

If you plan to double major in business and engineering expect to be here 5+ years. You might want to consider just engineering then an MBA later.

Woody, could you please elaborate upon your opinion about the double-major?

Well, I am in the same boat. I want to do a more business oriented engineering. After looking at the dual BBA+BSE program and realizing how long it was, even with stuff I tested out of, I decided not to bother. Plus, a lot of engineers just get their MBA after their BSE. You don’t need a BBA for an MBA so getting a BBA and then an MBA seems like overkill.

In case I want to apply either for for the EGL or for the Double-Major, what would be the way to go? Can I do it before arriving at UMich?

I’m pretty sure you won’t bother with either until second year, at the earliest the end of your first year

Where can I check that languages list?
