I was considering the engineering honors program at rutgers but I was wondering whether the suites for the honors students are better than the regular dorms that the freshman have. Are the suites advantageous? What are the advantages of being an honors engineering student?

Thanks!

In the building I lived in, Barr Hall, there was a floor for students in the honors engineering program. Barr is special interest housing on Busch campus for first year engineers, and I would recommend this over the suites. There are spaces in the suites reserved for honors engineering students (McCormick), but I believe that upperclassmen have first dibs, so they’re probably all taken. I personally recommend Barr Hall, you’ll get to live with the people who are in your classes, so you get to know them so much better :)

Do I have to be in the honors engineering program to get a chance to live in Barr Hall?

I’m not in honors, only 1 of the 4 floors is the honors student housing.

@luvsports, no in Barr, only the 2nd floor is for honors kids. There is not much difference between the 2nd floor and the rest of the floors blueprint wise.

For anyone that is in the engineering honors program or knows a lot about it, how exactly does the application process work? Is there a separate application for the honors program that I fill out with my regular application? Or do I wait for an answer in May from Rutgers and they will accordingly tell me if I’m a candidate for the honors program?

They will send you an application if you’re qualified for it. Then you have to fill it out and say whether you want to be in it or not, and send it to the admissions. But do so quickly, because there are only a limited number of spots; so even if you say “yes, I want to be in the honors program” on the application, you won’t be in it if you send it late. This happens to so many people.

thanks for the advice everyone!
