Engineering Honors Program

I just started looking at this college today and found this program. My interest is piqued, although I have some questions about it.

1) It says that it is a "non-degree" program... what does that even mean? Will you just... not get a degree if you're in it? How does that work?
2) How hard is it to get in/how many kids are accepted? What are my chances with a 3.96/4.2 GPA (one A- in AP US History... ugh) and a 2240 SAT (800 M)?

Thanks in advance. I'm actually really excited to learn more about this school, it seems like it has everything I want in a university (warm, great atmosphere, good engineering, big/spirited student body).

edit: I should probably mention that I'm OOS as well.

It just means that it is not a major. You get recognized for it, but it’s not like you’re graduating in it. That’s the best way I can explain it. Also, it is really selective, but you will probably get in with those stats, especially if you plan on reading the SAT.

UT is truly what you are looking for then. It is a big school, but it doesn’t feel as big when you actually visit campus. The sports are great and are continually so. Hopefully, football will start up again and be the powerhouse that it was the last ~10 years. The quarterback we have suuuuuuuck. Hopefully Brewer brings back the good times. Anyway, i’ll be attending this fall. Hook 'Em!

Thanks! So does that mean it like complements your normal degree? Like can I major in a certain area of engineering but still be in the honors program as well? Is that how it works?

Yes, you’re correct. Your diploma won’t read any differently. You’ll have to make high grades to get “Honors,” “High Honors,” or “Highest Honors” on your degree (I’m assuming they still use English instead of Latin for these terms, but I’m not sure - that’s how my diploma reads from many years ago).

Yes, as Mainelonghorn said, it’s like a complement to the normal diploma. Also, keep in mind that just having “with Honors” requires like a 3.67 GPA and like a 3.87+ for “Highest Honors.”

You need to complete a thesis paper in the Engineering Honors Program to graduate with that designation on your diploma.
