Engineering Honors

I’ve heard of one acceptance. But yeah being honors you get considered for honor scholarships but they are selective as well

I think they only accepted top 1% and higher.

@UTAustinR

That is not true. I think what is more important than trying to achieve top 1% is to show dedication to the maths and sciences (UIL, Math Olympiads, Summer math programs). My friend who is not in the top 1%, (but in the top 10%) has participated and done well in showing initiative outside of grades. That is what got him into honors (DS, Engineering, and Turing).

lol did he do MOP and USAMO or something? can’t think of what else you’d mean by summer math programs. if that’s the case, no surprise they let him into all 3.

They might be trying to make it more selective or something though…

My D received a letter today from Cockrell inviting her into the Engineering Honors Program and offering a small one year scholarship to boot. We live in Austin, so the rest of you who are waiting for decisions should hear soon.

jvandy: very nicely done! Congrats to your D. So, is she going to live at home next year since y’all are in town?

does this mean theyve already sent out all rejections?

@eaglemom: No, she wants a full college experience, as if she were not an Austin native. Therefor she will be living at SRD.

jvandy - your daughter is the same as me! I was from Austin, in engineering honors, and lived at SRD all four years! Cool. I hope she has as wonderful an experience as I did.

Argh, Houston here, and I still haven’t gotten anything. WHY STILL USE MAIL?

@Mainelonghorn, My D is the one who got accepted into Architectural engineering. You had generously offered to answer any questions she might have. Now she is also accepted into Plan II and I think she is thinking hard about doing both. Many do but what a tough road.

^Thanks for reminding me! My memory is short. That’s amazing she’s even in the same department that I was.

Wow, I can’t imagine doing Plan II and engineering!

Son received his EHP acceptance letter today! They were kind enough to offer a nice scholarship too (which he can keep if he keeps up a 3.5 GPA. . . . .aarrrrggghhh!)

But we’re pleased overall. Still waiting on Rice, though.

Received 5k p/year engineering (3.5 to renew) and invited to join EHP in the mail today. Didn’t know about that scholarship. Will have to take another look at UT. Accepted ChemE last fall.

Sames as ironclay. I wonder what set us apart though, some of the kids who were denied were ridiculous…

Congratulations to all the invitees. My DD also got her letter today with a small stipend.

Just got my EHP letter today with a one year scholarship :)

Anyone so far get a scholarship for 10k/yr for 4 yrs with this?

Woohoo! I got the same offer as ohmyghosh09 and IronClay. I’m even a ChemE too. We’re going to end up being friends some day.

The rejections were actually worrying me, it seems like a lot of very qualified candidates got rejected. My SAT was rather low (only 1500 M+CR), and I feel like I had pretty meh ECs throughout high school…Class rank was salutatorian though. Maybe that was it?

congrats @David. Haha yeah im in the same boat i thought other people were more qualified than I
