engineering internships with a 2.94 GPA

I'm currently a junior mechanical engineer at Carnegie Mellon university. As the title says I have a 2.94 gpa right now, I know for a fact that it will be going above a 3.0 after this semester but i wanted to apply to internships sooner rather than waiting till next year. although i have a sub-3.0 gpa i interned at an aerospace company doing stress analysis this past summer. So i was wondering if having past work experience in the field will let companies look past my 2.94 gpa when applying for internships with a 3.0 minimum or if I should just wait till January to start applying for positions. Thanks

I would say that having experience always trumps GPA when it comes to being selected for work unless it is really low. I don’t think it would hurt to apply now as it is early. You are showing initiative. If you don’t get the response you are looking for, you can always reapply in January. Definitely get that GPA up above a 3.0 though! :)
