Engineering Job Prospects

Hi, I am planning to into engineering in university. My mostly interested in electrical, chemical and maybe with computer science as my minor. My cousin is saying that nuclear engineering is going to be very big. I going to finish university by 2013, what will the the job market then (Canada and America)? I'm mostly interested in job demand, starting salary, chances to get promoted, etc.

2013? Are you even a senior in high school yet?

I am going to finish university in 2013 not enter it!

That doesn’t answer my question…

Specialized majors such as Nuclear or Petroleum typically have higher salary than their EE/ME/Chem/CivilE counterparts but since they are such niche fields they are more influenced by market changes.

My personal philosophy is that if you are looking for strong in-demand jobs, go with the CivilE/ME/ChemE/EE majors and if you then see a new upcoming field, just get a Masters.

^^Solid advice. Don’t narrow your options too quickly.

Agree with that too. I think ME is the most of the engineering degrees.

There are numerous NE jobs opening up for undergrad and grad students to replace retiring workers.
All of the NE students I know have gotten excellent job offers with high entry-level salaries from many different places. In addition, EU is seriously re-considering nuclear and the developing nations are also coming to a realization that they need nuclear energy to replace their base-load electricity.
