I emailed them asking about it and they insist that it indeed not an acceptance, simply an open house invitation. There are so many people convinced that it equates to an acceptance that I felt that this should be cleared up. I got on for CSE and got my hopes up as well, but doubt it is anything significant.

Well, I've talked to my college counselor and she said that it is basically an acceptance letter. Also, I've never heard of anything getting rejected after reeiving the letter. Yeah, it's not official but it might as well be.

Most people are saying that a lot of people are getting them, that is not likely for UCLA engineering. And people who deviate strongly from the avg SAT scores have recieved the letter as well which is questionable. Trust me I'd like to believe it is an acceptance as much as anyone, but I highly doubt that.

We'll find out in a couple of days....

well then whats with the whole "We encourage you to seriously consider joining our department."

darn...hm well obviously the official guy is going to say its not an acceptance letter because it's not! but why would they invite you to reject you...thats mean and messed up

are you talking about the engineering letter or the e-mail? Cuz again, i believe those who got the letter got the e-mail those who got none got nothing

i didnt get the letter, but i got the email

it seems as if there were different versions of the letter...mine says "...on behalf of HSSEAS, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that the Faculty...has recommended your admission." I have a friend (who is a much better student than I am) whose letter expressly says that he has been accepted, and a formal letter will come later. Both were by post and received 2+ weeks ago

i think you all are in, calm down

What about the engineering applicants that didn't get a letter or email, are we most likely rejected?

What about the enginerring applicants who* didn't get a letter or email, are we most likely rejected? (damn grammar)

from what I know, unfortunatley the chances are pretty low of getting in without having recieved anything, but keep your head up there is always a chance mathtastic

yay, i have hope! I already got into UCSD so it would be a whole blow or anything, but it would be nice.

D'oh, i mean wouldn't*
